No one considered it a hot pursuit though. He himself expected to have a few days of leavy before they found out they left town, and that's on top of the time it would take for the info to reach capital and for the assassins to assemble. The fact that the assassins left on (I think) the next day was something shown only to us, the readers."Mmmmh, we are being pursued by assassins (most likely), so let's just stop here to investigate an abandoned ruin that doesn't really have anything to do with us and lower our guards by taking it easy. At this point I'm skimming through the chapters, reading just to see how much worse the story can get.
