For however many qualms I have with their extremely regressive take on the sexual assault of men, I appreciate that this story attempts to in a mature fashion tackle how fucked up a lot of these ingrained isekai tropes are or would be. This is definitely not the cup of tea of anyone who wanted a full-on head empty isekai narrative (which is many people) or to "do your homework" as they say, but I suppose in an apathetic world, caring is transgressive. I could almost physically feel that sense of fear and shock from the protagonist when they did the fake-out with Marle, and they've been incredibly good at those character expressions throughout many of the "reality check" moments in the story. I'm glad I made it this far, despite wanting to drop it when "that" happened.
Edit: They still did the "Bought her as a slave for her own good" trope in the next chapter, but unlike other stories where the protagonist is so overpowered that he could easily choose option C (burn down the entire kingdom) I can actually see why he would do this and it is addressed further.
