Yeah, that chapter ruins the entire series for me. Dark topics were handled especially well and awkward stuff was actually awkward, until suddenly, MC breaks all his principles.
Here is a question that will break any female that supports "open-marriages".
So what happens if the concubine gets pregnant first?
Think about it, the order of succession is firstborn. If you are just going to overlook the firstborn for the "plausible" kid with your "legal wife" then you are basically discriminating your own kids.
@Julian117 I seem to recall this exact scenario being an important plot point in a manga or three. Either the MC is the older concubine's kid, and their younger sibling is a right twat (or the inverse is true) or this is what leads to a succession issue with royal NPCs.

Its firstborn from legal wife, always has been in relationships like that. That's what legal wife mean. Its a smart system, not sure what you're on about discriminating and your entire mindblowing argument is dependent on discrimination being an axiom.
Especially laughable when one consider that humanity usually used these two things together when they were still in use in medieval europe. Exception would be if the first wife cannot get pregnant, for example.

My point is exactly the same. If A king has many children with different wives and concubines then eventually there is going to be huge infighting after the king dies. With some lords not liking how the first prince is rulling kingdom is going to get assassinated or replaced with another who might he more suited.
Either way, this is like a snowball rolling down the hill into an avalanche for everyone involved.
