Has there been any serial killing case where the murderer was pure madness and made hardly any sense when choosing people to kill? Man, I would love to see a non-formulaic case.

on top of my mind, the Jason murder case in the original Kindaichi case series.

@pomodoro Though I still remember the culprit of that case got the motivation out of "love" which is the same as literally every other case.

The mad killer that I remember is only Takato (except his first case) and Asou Sanae from the first case of Kin37.
A non-formulaic case is a good idea for this series, I think.

@depzdai sometimes the line between love and pure madness is just very thin. What separates the case to the others is that the killer doesn't actually know who he should kill, and ends up trying to kill everyone. I.e., he was nonsensical in choosing his targets. In that sense, his reasoning is more "pure madness" relative to the other cases.

I also just remembered that russian doll case where the culprit sole motivation is just money (no sugarcoating), which I think is unique within Kindaichi-verse.

The culprit of white-haired demon in that treasure hunting case also chased money, but it was ultimately for their daughter illness.

@pomodoro In fact quite a good point you got there. Even as that guy did it out of love, his trying to beat others senseless did not seem sophisticating but at a point it was more satisfying(!) than the "artistic" sense of decorating the murder scene shared by more motivated killers and even Takatou. Successfully harming Miyuki to a point is another plus if someone doesn't mind.
