I don't really see this turn of the plot as being all that "edgy". It isn't like the MC suddenly has a murder-boner. He doesn't seem to enjoy the idea of killing another human but isn't going to whine and moan about "muh morals" when a group of what amounts to serial killers are gunning for his head. Seems more practical than edgy to me.
