It's fine if they quickly find the bag of pills, but if becomes some sort of drama, they disqualify him, and he has to go through hell and high water to prove himself innocent... yeah, that's bad writing (like many others have said, there are so many experts around - how tf did he poison him), and my rating for this wuxia is gonna go down a smidge lol
