Yeah, no. Chopsticks are definitely worse as a tool than western utensils. Is a spoon harder to carve out? Sure, but it's not like it takes that much time to make either compared to how much more versatile and convenient it is compared to sticks.

The cultural invasion begins once again! Seriously, the fact that we're destroying the native culture aside, what are the odds that all our modern eccentricities would transition so absolutely well into fantasy worlds and end up accepted so unanimously? It's one of those clearly-biased subjects we have to take an author's word on.

Having said all that, chopsticks actually are a lot more versatile than other utensils, in my experience. There's an annoying learning curve, but once you get it, you can get much more precise with solid foods than spoons or forks can manage.

Are they somehow supposed to know what diseases are before developing eating utensils?

Isn't it mainly because people from a position of power implement it? If it's as convenient as they claim, it'll end up widespread. Otherwise, it'll only be used in the sphere of influence of the one in power.

I mean chopsticks are useful to eat Asian food, if you try to eat food in another region most of the time they can't handle the job well. They are indeed cheap, though.

Chopsticks.... I mean clearly cultural bias. Because making sporks out of milk's plastic en masse should be easy enough.
