Seriously, the fact that we're destroying the native culture aside, what are the odds that all our modern eccentricities would transition so absolutely well into fantasy worlds and end up accepted so unanimously? It's one of those clearly-biased subjects we have to take an author's word on.

Having said all that, chopsticks actually are a lot more versatile than other utensils, in my experience. There's an annoying learning curve, but once you get it, you can get much more precise with solid foods than spoons or forks can manage.
