By statistics I'd go with the shorter distance, but it was the mangaka's mistake anyway to not keep it consistent. Also, the dude can use his knee to move, it merely hurts. However, he's no milk drinker, so a little bit of pain won't stop him from doing what he needs to do. You never know what sort of magic resistance a demon might possess, but if it's a young girl looking demon, it's physical resistance won't be worth mentioning.
