My country has a saying that basically means "All people are born good". They turn evil because of the circumstance they live in. That doesn't excuse their actions and they still have to be punished for their crimes but sympathizing and understanding why they did that is important since we can use that experience to help people in the same situation and avoid the same tragedy.

Well, that sure came suddenly.
But then death is always about sudden.

Damn. Every single time, the author makes me feel the feels, and he makes me feel them hard. Bravo, author. Bravo.

@pokefairy Viz does, though they're behind in volumes. They translate and release the new KnY chapter every Sunday (unless scheduling changes).

I think a lot of the people in the comments seem to have forgotten that in most cases the demons were originally victims themselves. The ones that actually retain something of themselves are the exceptions and even Tamayo was shown to have killed and eaten her own family before regaining her sense of self. Tanjirou's last remaining member of his family tried to kill him against her own will after turning into a demon so he knows as well as anyone about the human suffering inside the demon, which is why he isn't just fighting to kill them but also to save them, even if that's only letting them die in peace.

It's something that's been shown almost every time Tanjirou's killed a demon up until now so I don't know how anyone has managed to miss it but this flashback isn't to redeem Akaza, it's the process of showing Hakuji's soul being saved/freed from the demon blood.

Unless Kokushibou/1 or Nakime/4 tops it off, Akaza/3 probably has the saddest backstory for the all the Upper Moons. Feels bad man.

I get a feeling that Douma/2's backstory won't be that sad because it feels like he's just a natural asshole character.
