Well at the very least its not a dumpster fire end. Harem manga always struggled to end when the artist want to choose 1 girl anyway.

It's because the story builds up all the characters and leans on a "anyone could win" mindset the entire run, then suddenly it has to convince you the one girl is better then the rest right at the end.

I say it again, the problem I had was instead of developing relationships Negi decided to play "you thought she was the bride but it was me, Negi" mind games with the readers and I stop because it wasnt fun to see a drawn out mystery that I had no investment in (unlike the Shippers class of 2017) because this isnt a horse race and I dont care who "wins" as long it makes sense on a narrative way, this is why I never had problems with certain endings because as long there is a logical sense to the ending that makes a enjoyable story ... and this stop being a enjoyable story the more and more it devolved into making it a harem by throwing everyone in (even Itsuki at the end, for what purpose?) instead of working on the relationship of Fuutarou and the bride.

Hell it reminds me when Seo decided to shock the readers in Fuuka without understanding the full extent of what he was about to do, that worked so well now didnt it?

Also @starburst98, its not about who is the "better girl" but rather what makes sense within the story ... its like having a romantic triangle and at 10 chapters before the end the MC decided that he is in love with a supporting character that have no real romantic outlines with the MC and the last 10 chapters are how not to be in a relationship with someone, I will give a example of a series that had a heroine chosen from the start, its a harem and spends its time developing their relationship ... Love Hina (the manga, not the anime), as much I like Motoko and the series does develop Motoko character a lot (she is perhaps the 2nd character in the series with most development, after Keitaro) the fact is, the story makes not much sense without ending as it did.

@Exile well i agree with you on this series 100%, but cant agree the reminder of Fuuka, bcs yeah - it was sudden, shock etc BUT - it was at the beggining, 30 chapters of 100+, so it wasnt kinda bad, yeah - we were tricked thinking "welp its romance about girl named Fuuka so what bad could happened?", but instead weve got tragic story in memories of her, may i say. But - i repeat - bcs it was basically in first qourter of the manga - the story itself wasnt harmed much in the end. it was hard to accept when the accedent happens, but if you continue to read, you kinda feel the story logic and the message author was telling us there - that our loved ones, their dreams and hopes live through our actions and memories.
But here, in 5Toubun - its just crap writing - i totally agree, the most of all i was pissed not even about Yotsuba (alright, she was in love with him all that time, i accept (no does it explain Fuutaros actions bcs he wasnt paying her THAT MUCH attention to even propose on first date WTF)), but about Itsuki - all this shit feels like "Oh, my sisters trying to get a boy, why not, im bored, gonna stick with them as well" - this kind of shit. If the story was floating around Miko, Nino and Ichika, like it was at the beggining, and Yotsuba and Itsuki was just side characters (as they were the whole time before this freaking big Shyamalan "what a twist" reveal) supporting sisters - it would be good enough (and if in this situation Fuu was paying attention to this 2 instead main girls - it would be even better - it would cover all five sisters and give us SOME FUCKING LOGIC).

You out here speaking truth bro!! It made the most sense within the story that he should have picked either Miku or Nino based on their character interactions, development and arcs. Itchka had basically removed herself from the race so it's like 🤔, Itsuki never really included herself along with Yotsuba who was always a sideline support character. For her to be picked it was like a curve ball that didn't make any sense within the story which makes the ending so sour overall and kinda ruins the manga for me. I wouldnt really mind if he got with Yotsuba as long as she had an actual character arc and development that justified her being with the mc in the story imo
