I'm not gonna lie, an AI / Neural Net being able to auto-clean Manga pages for scanlation would make my life like 90% easier.
Bonus if we can get an AI / NN to OCR manga pages.

Agreed, the cleaning of those pages is amazing, (I havent done any translation/cleaning ever but I've seen how to do it) the images look amazing and if it took less time and was less of a pain than to clean by hand then this guy deserves a cookie.
Since the name of the group is MLScanlation hope people see that and stop complaining about the low quality of the translation and focus on what I suppose is the primary objective of posting this manga, to let us all know that sonner than I imagined there will be a way to be able to cut corners and not compromise in the image quality.

All they did, from what I can tell, is take the OCR detected text-boxes/rectangles, and white them out. Rather simple to do. You could easily upgrade this method to auto-detect outlined solid color bgs, and fill them in, along with auto-fitting the text.
They also turned any transparent regions with text into white boxes, this could be removed, but redrawing that region automatically is much more difficult. That said, it IS possible, especially with newer 'Content Aware' algorithms like Content aware fill

There is zero effort put into this. 'Uchi' is a common way of referring to yourself. It's like watashi, but more common. If the group needs help, mail me. Give me the Japanese dialogues and the pages where those dialogues are and I'll translate it. I won't typeset or clean anything, though. I'm very lazy.
