I thought that might be the case with them too and if it happens (even in future) then some other group can take over.

The group is still active, it's rude to them who work on the story to be told to have their work taken over by someone else when they're working on it, we should just be thankful they're doing it coz we're all just peasants here and not paying.
Fyi groups usually ask the previous scanlating team if they've dropped it before they take over said work as common courtesy.
