I'll admit, I was shocked when she was defending Igarashi in front of her friends, but given one night alone to think about it, she slams hard into the "welp, he's having an affair, i get to have one, too!" frame.

Igarashi being self-reflective and admitting that, yes, he's running away made me feel more sympathetic toward him. In a good story, this is when he realizes he needs to get some space away from Chiyo because one shouldn't be afraid of admitting a "wrong-doing" to their significant other. And he's afraid because Chiyo is just the sort of person to rage and break up with him, AND she has the sympathy of everyone in their circle of "friends."
