Guess they're walking back the "he's just an asshole, don't try to identify with him" introduction we were given. Which, is used so often as a switch-up tactic in stories that I guess it shouldn't be a surprised it went this way.

Hopefully he actually does apologize directly to Hikari though, because if he doesn't that would make him a jerk.

Oh yeah no, the fact a third party gave him the nickname "lower-half MVP" and him 'collecting girlfriends' shows he'd have to do a lot of legwork to actually become a decent person who can rise above how he's perceived by everyone else.

I was mostly just commenting on the story setup and how the author ended up doing exactly what we often see where a character is portrayed as an unrepentant asshole, and then "walked back" to a slightly less-offensive degree by way of backstory or "revealing of true intentions" or whathaveyou.

But if this were real life, I'd still not want to associate with him and wouldn't feel bad calling him an arrogant ass.

tbh I had a totally different read on the guy. figured he was introduced as a would-be love rival to Koutarou for Kuro (not that I see Kuro ever picking him). Less an asshole jerk and more the chad alpha.

I admittedly allowed my own bias to color my word choice here - but I would argue that, from the ML's perspective, he is kind of an asshole; someone who would "collect girlfriends" and generally lord his talents over others, despite being raised to be more humble and considerate (going by the flashback), kinda shows that he lost his way and developed some jerk-like attitudes, at the least.

And in that vein, "chad alpha" is kind of a loaded term and not one I'd say necessarily paints him in a positive light, given how open to interpretation it is depending on the perspectives of the person using it. Sure he's tall and handsome and popular, but he's also a womanizer and literally treated one of the two FLs as an object to be won in a bet over a ball game.

Not quite what I'd call "complimentary" behavior, from where I'm sitting.

I guess he could end up being a love rival, but thus far the whole deal is Kuro trying to set up the ML & CHF and she's fully against romance for herself - so I don't quite know if "love rival" is in the cards, just on that note. If she were more "aware" of the prospect of romance between herself and someone else, I could see an argument, but as of now not so much.

Oh man I can't wait for this guy to force his way into the main group of friends for some reason and integrate in one chapter without explanation even though hes the popular 'bad boy'. Ever since the first page he got introduced, it triggered my ptsd from all the random alpha males joining the cuck mc's group after disrespecting literally everyone and acting like nothing ever happened. The amount of times it happens in other stories and just becomes part of the regular cast of characters is astonishing and I pray it to not happen in this otherwise peak manga
