@bastek66 I was mostly joking. I only said that cuz "childhood friend never wins" memes and if childhood friend actually won it would've been a SUPER forced yaoi ending. tbh wouldn't have cared if that was the ending if the development in the manga led to that but it didn't at all. probs should've explained this and the way i said it was misleading, so sorry i guess. i dont read yaoi stuff but i dont really care if there are themes as long as its realistic (same goes for the weird yuri stuff that goes on in a lot of shounen harems and stuff along those lines which im honestly more annoyed by how yuri is portrayed compared to yaoi but that's a different subject) right now i'd rate this manga at least 4.5/5 because it was real and showed hardship although i think the bullying aspect is outdated at least where i live cuz the guys who came out were rather popular, not bullied(most likely a cultural difference).

Yeah you're right it's realistic, but reality is garbage.
Fiction is supposed to be an escape from reality for fuck sake...

Lowkey wishing Masumi confessed at some point which led to her and Futaba falling in love, dating and getting married idc idc idccccc dyke rights 😤😤
But onto another things... did the manga seriously get cancelled? That's quite surprising, I thought it was popular enough to keep serialization.

I'm sad on how rushed was this ending ):
I kind of wanted more about the resolve of Touma and Taichi, about trying to understand different types of love and how to deal with it. I wanted to see more of Masumi and Mami too ;-;
Mami was a really gud character.
Still ao no flag is a really nice mango and became one of my favs, looking forward for the ending 😔

Usually I don't like this bittersweet stuff, and relationships just ending out of the blue because it's "realistic" (after all, I'm here to read about that small percentage of stuff that goes well). I'm neutral to this one, though: maybe because of the tone that was set, maybe because I never felt like those characters belonged to each other. Anyway, it was an ok ride, not as good as it looked like it was going to be in the first chapters, but still fine.
