Yeah but no. Was fine with everything up until suddenly bi/pan or at least how it was portrayed; came across as making the conscious choice to be X/Y/Z sexuality which isn't realistic.

This manga was like going on a journey around Europe, seeing sights and meeting people you'd never forget only to end up in a reopened Auschwitz at the end... Yeah sure the journey was great but the end destination fucking ruined everything.

Way to just throw the entire conflict out the window and end the series. I think I would have been happier if it just had an open ending on the beach.

Soooo... I would have loved a little more of Touma and Taichi's story of them ending together and this would have been perfect. Or at least show Touma's face as well! Otherwise happy they ended together and about the other characters endings.

I agree with everything you said! Also on high school relationships not lasting...I thought the same till last year I went on a deep fb dive of ex schoolmates and about 80% of the couples back then are still together 8 years later so guess I was wrong. @dojinshi

I'm super happy my bois were able to be happy together in the end, but it really does smack of the series getting the axe. I would have loved an extra chapter or two just to explore them coming to terms with their feelings, or accepting that they might not be completely straight and starting their relationship. I feel really sad for the "lesbian" friend, but I get the feeling she married that guy because he's sort of a himbo that's pretty similar to Futaba and hopefully she's happy as a bisexual. Maybe that's why the husband started venting at the wedding because he also has picked up on it.

I did like how everyone grew up though. Wish there was just a little more.

edit - Also did anyone notice the perspective? It looks like Taichi got quite a bit taller and caught up to Touma's height lol

So it turned shounen ai right at the end huh? that's kinda....bullshit imo...I got nothing on shounen ai but I feel like this kinda just shoved everything these characters went through into the trash? Especially the chapter before this one.

meh, whatever, at least there aren't any unrequited feelings, the 2 dudes turned gay for each other so eh...at least that's what I assumeeeeddd??

this is a M. Night Shyamalan tier twist, and I don't think the author really understands how 'gay' works lmao

Well this is disappointing, I'm glad I saw this coming like a year ago so I stopped reading it. I don't have problems with yaoi or yuri but I just don't like it.
Also, realism is good but you cannot just use it to send to the trash 53 chapters of a main couple. Braking up from ONE PAGE TO ANOTHER and making the main character gay from one moment to another really doesn't make sense.

@Amairani considering that a quick google search of if they last has a whole flood of 'nopes'. thats pretty surprising, if those stats are accurate that must have been one hell of a highschool you had

The lesbian ends up with a man for some reason. The hetero ends up gay for some reason. Two people in love break up for some unkown reason.

The ride was good but then the author decided to kill everyone, including the driver with this mess of rushed ending.

What a surprise, didn't expect that. I like the ending tho. Nothing was set in stone in HS, eh. One might ended as their friends had expected, or take a total 180° turn.

OTOH, seeing Taichi's "adventure" till he came to the decision that Touma is his most important would be interesting, but TBH judging from how Ao no Flag was told, it could take a whole new series just to tell the story... Also, he asked to be friend with Touma but then having a hard time to even see Futaba after break-up, kek 🙂 Well would still be interesting tho.

From usual romance to GL to BL, for me this manga still numero uno for "confession" scene. That scene where Touma told Taichi in hospital with such intensity "nothing more important than you" is so... Yea the mangaka made it so damn well, the drawing, words, intensity in his face and eyes, just impressive.

Except at no point was Taichi gay. Touma was his best friend definitely, but he never came off as seeing him as anything more. He was in love with Futaba. Don't accept this terrible writing.

Fact is, it is realistic. What's not acceptable is how this ending was brought in such a rushed manner. Tachi clearly rejected Touma, you can't bring them to be together ellipsing 1 year per panel in just 2 chapter and end it like "tada, the end". Sure they're all happy but this is just throwing a rushed unpredictable end. It was really good until 2 chapters ago. As for myself I'd recommend reading it but to stop 2 chapters ago because it made a nice end.
It kinda feels like Darling in the Franxx being real good until ep16 and then director throwing shit on the scenario to end it.

I don’t know, I felt like them all going there separate ways was better. Never got the impression from Mc that he was bi or gay.

Oh well everything but this chapter was a good ride

Oh screw you. It's a shit ending because of the writing. If it had shown any sign of Taichi being gay then most wouldn't care. It didnt. He was in love with Futaba and only saw Touma has his best friend.

@TheMinester

This is not realistic in the slightest.

Well, this has been the Mass Effect 3 of mangas for me. 95% of it great and then a terrible ending that came pretty much out of nowhere. Taichi was never really written as bisexual (without having to REALLY read into a couple of panels) and neither was Masumi. And now they are because reasons.

Really felt like the author just wanted to be different with the ending and ended up going against her entire established narrative. Trying to make it seem like sexuality is a choice, which is isn't. Good ride, shitty finish.

@HoneyPotGirl

Why is it that whenever someone calls out shitty writing it automatically makes them homophobic or racist or sexist? No one who stuck with the series this long is that- people were rooting for Toma to come out and find someone to love. The problem is the author completely failed to foreshadow Taichi as being gay or bisexual and then last chapter just throws that out of the window.

It was a damn good manga, with a unexpectied end though, which doesnt makes sense unfortunately because we never saw any guy side in Taichi.

This doesn't really make sense. I do like the idea of Taichi and Touma ending up together, but not like this. This is completely unwarranted and there's literally no reason for Taichi to be gay/bi. No hints, if anything we've only gotten told that he's straight and NOT gay. This makes no sense and unfortunately kinda ruins the whole manga for me.
