There's been way too much focus on these side characters lately. MC has just been standing in the background for entire chapters eating his creampuffs. What's even the plot anymore?

The chapter numbers are wrong. Its supposed to be chapters 12 and 13, not chapters 13 and 14.

@lolmaolol It's a similar situation to One Punch Man, and to a lesser extent Mob Psycho. The MC is essentially all-powerful for the sake of the story, so their conflict is limited to often petty reasons such as being annoying or a misunderstanding. That being said, One Punch Man benefits from the side characters as their arcs drive the bulk of the action itself while Saitama handles the comedic aspects.

Here they seem to take a similar approach. Our MC can seemingly handle anything with his fists similar to Saitama (actually, looks like Mob but has the powers of Saitama). Side characters have been introduced to add conflict that would otherwise be solved immediately by the MC. Yet the problem here is how more side characters are introduced without proper investment, and overall overshadowing the plot set by the MC.

The plot is just him needing to survive and pass enough classes to reach the very top. The situation in this chapter is basically a fight with the school bully.

@RunaVolkov but one of the differences here, is that the MC isn't the biggest fish in the pond, along with the fact that he's fighting an upward battle where everyone else in the world has magic, but he doesn't

@1234muse That’s what makes it even more similar to One Punch Man. Saitama has a very bad public image due to no one believing in him, and in that sense can’t be seen as a “hero”.

The difference in it is that Saitama doesn’t much care for it; though he would appreciate being seen in a better light, hero work comes first before public image. The MC in this story has already proven to be more powerful than anyone he’s seen, aside from maybe the headmaster, but needs to be the top student in “magic” in order to reach his goal. He just has an extra stake in this fight, which can make for a better main plot if they expanded more upon it.

I just think that if they are going to do a story like this, the side characters should be more engaging to balance out the MC’s more laidback conflict. :)
