The most delicious thing he ate was probably her :smugnako:

That's an actual rum? Now I'm curious. Haven't explored rum much and haven't found any particular rum I like either.
Yes. Zacapa Solera 23. Excellent dark rum from Guatemala. I always have a bottle in my cabinet.

The rums that I've tried just seem too sweet for my taste. I'm a whisk(e)y drinker myself.

I used to only drink cheap local rum and hate whiskey to the gut.

The most available whiskey here is Johnny's red & black and that's totally not to my liking and I thought they're all the same so I never really try any other until I got converted to whiskey once more with Jameson as a gateway and go on toward bourbon (Jim & Maker's Mark). This one will be me going back to explore more rum other than the cheap local ones; it doesn't seem easy to find here and will be pricey once found though :nyoron:

A lot of people think they don't like a particular spirit but the truth is they've only had garbage.

I used to think tequila sucked because I'd only had Jose Cuervo my whole life. I sampled a good one at the local Total Wine and while I don't like it as much as whiskies I found I did like it. A funny thing is I like the plata better than the aged stuff. Unaged tequila has the agave flavor forward while aging brings the barrel flavors forward which I think whiskies do better.

Sometimes it's hard to find a type of spirit in your area. I'd like to explore shochu (not soju) but in the Phoenix area I can only find it for sale at one Total Wine a 45-minute round trip away and it's two different Iichiko barley ones. I happened to be in Tucson a while back and found a sweet potato shochu. Shochu distilled from sweet potato has a completely different flavor profile than that distilled from barley. I've looked around at other liquor stores but I've had no luck. (In singly-distilled shochu the flavor of the base ingredient is quite evident.)
