Honestly I don't like this particular much-recycled concept that much. Often feels like the implicit premise is the author and audience want sexual advances from a girl but still would either feel uncomfortable or think less of the girl if she wasn't "actually innocent".

I could, I suppose, be more charitable and say it's a story of comfort for such poor men as who want sex but are meanwhile terrified of both sex and social interaction (such as would be required for dating more normally). I'm still dubious, though...
