Hey there, I just want to remind you that the average manga reader, especially ones who read for free on a website like Mangadex, are mostly children. I hope that people who think they are entitled to free pirated content and then complain about its quality will not discourage you from trying. Your translation, font, and everything else could be improved, but it's very readable. I once tried translating a series, and I know how hard it can be.

I think people who have never translated before should stop gatekeeping. Bullying a new translator out of the translation scene is never a good idea.

The negative voices are always louder than anything else, don't let it get to you.

Okay, for the sake of the argument, I went and read those abomination of the chapters and all of his comments that this guy uploaded even though I already blocked him.

1. I've read those works of his and there is no sign of anything being improved. For comparison, let's use REALSCANS who translated Okaeri Papa (which at that time, didn't updated for a long time). At first his translation is horrendous, but after reading comments, his works clearly improved over time. I really appreciate that, because I know that guy is putting effort. It truly shows that he wished to be better. Maybe I'm biased but there is no noticeable improvement from this guy. Clearly his concern is just to pump up any chapter as fast as he could, and then leave the works to us to correct his garbage works (just look at his comments). He didn't wish to be better, and putting minimum effort.

2. Now, we caught up with the raw, why is this guy suddenly stop uploading? If he want to be a translator, surely he will upload the rest of the chapter? This guy already listed his reason like "I upload as I read", so probably he has no reason to upload now. What that makes? He is no more than just a troll who ruin enjoyment. When reading manga, discussion is half the fun. The other commenters here already stated that sniper can discouraged the translator, and there is a pattern of that, so I won't elaborate further as the other commenters already giving a very good reasoning.

3. I agree gatekeeping is bad, but at least, there is etiquette. This guy is not following any of that, and when people calling out of his behaviour, he plays dumb.

So, you are right we shouldn't gatekeep and encourage people to try, I agree, and we are consuming a free content, but I can't help to think that this guy is being malicious, while keep acting dumb the whole time. Nice points! But you're wrong on some things. 1) I didn't translate to create a " perfect " version. It's text. Main idea's there? Good enough. I do it for myself, share for those who don't want to wait. Don't like the font? Give me one. Left-aligned text? PaintTool SAI can't center it. 2) Yes, no reason. Hm, you don’t like my translation? Very valid points, you are way better than the rest of the children on this thread, but let me say something about your points

The first point, you gave an example of the translator improves as more comments and feedbacks they recieved. A measurable improvement from the help of the community. What do we have here though? Only hate. How is anyone going to improve through this overwhelming hatred and nothing constructive?

The second point you raised on "why did they stop", it just means you guys are winning does it not? Even if it's mtl, efforts are still needed, just try it out yourself. So why put the effort when everyone's hating? I would stop too. The gatekeeping is working.

There's also the point of BB potentially stop translating. Let's be honest here, do you think this guy can hold a candle to BB? Readers are not blind, and they will prefer BB's translation. All these white knight when BB might not even need any.

Not just BB but almost any translator loses motivation when this shit happens to a series they're working on, BB's said as much he's not sure if he's going to bother continuing with this series now once all the chapters he was mostly finished with are all posted. This exact scenario has played out hundreds if not thousands of times, people have seen this happen time, after time, after time and want to prevent it by driving away the poacher as quickly as possible and stop them doing it any more before it's too late, but because of dipshits like you encouraging translation poaching everyone suffers and we lost another translator and another series stalls because of it, just like clockwork.

If you read the article, it says all that you said and with reasonings. Reading the reasoning is important too, and think about what happened to them that's not happening to us. The point of that post that you're missing, deliberately or otherwise:
1: Translation isn't a fun activity.
2: Somebody coming in and poaching the series you're actively doing is incredibly disheartening.

That's it. That's the part you need to understand. The parts in the old story where the translator(s) were urged to hurry up too? That doesn't happen any more in large part due to RWX's soapbox in the subject, it's also not really relevant as it's just extra baggage and what matters here is the two points above, that's all that matters, the translators getting badmouthed for being slow isn't 80% of the article, it's 5% of it.

There are patterns of anything. I acted based on that pattern.

First, The one who are dare to translate manga usually pretty aware of the manga community, so usually they are aware of such unwritten rules such as sniping, etc. When this guy said "what is sniping", then I think he acted dumb, because never in my life found someone scanlating manga and didn't aware of these things.

Then, the one who usually sniped manga is

1. Troll (like a group named SSSSS or something. He only translate 1 chapters who served as spoiler and then went AWOL)
2. Someone who dissatisfied with current translation, either taking too long, or translation sucks. These guys are usually very capable translators.

This is based on my observation as long as I followed the community. What about in this case? Can't be point 2 because BB is doing a great job, so, I think the guy is a troll, but he keeps uploading, so he can't be a troll, so I think he is being malicious. The guy who did snipe manga because of point 2 is usually very capable (look at Okaeri Papa, again). This guy is far from being capable. That way, I can deduce this guy is up to no good. Assumption? Yes, you are right, essentially, there is no way I can deduce someone's intention from comments at an anonymous internet forum, but based on a pattern that I have experienced, I arrived on a conclusion that this guy is malicious.

Second, I too, thinks there is a pattern when sniper arrived, the other group usually stop scanlating. So, when this guy keeps uploading, I dreaded that BB will stop uploading as a result. Why? Because there is pattern. This guy uploading served as spoiler. It is not fun to be spoiled right? It takes away enjoyment, takes away anticipation, and takes away discussion. It is disheartening. Did BB actually say that? No, but when this guy keeps uploading, there is a chance, based on a pattern that the readers probably have experienced, that BB probably discouraged and stop uploading.

Based on these points, I acted very strongly. Because also this is my favorite series. We finally got a competent group scanlating this after Ecchi group did irregular updates and suddenly an incompetent sniper uploading garbage MTL scans. I dreaded that prospect, really.

Yeah, I do think this is dragging out way longer than it has to, especially when the main stars of the show, BB and Jecroisenlasuperioritedubel, have stopped commenting about this already.

First I want to say, that judging people by pattern, history, and statistics is a form of discrimination. When you judge a race by statistics, it becomes racism, when you judge a gender by patterns, it becomes sexism. When you are not judging an individual by their independent behaviour, it becomes discrimination.

Secondly, Jecroisenlasuperioritedubel has moved on from this manga where he got shunned away rudely. He is working on Teisou Gyakuten Sekai where he's being showered by all the love from the fans of that title. Did he improve? I see he's trying to. Improvement doesn't happen overnight, how did you judge his improvements with his 2 days' worth of uploads on this title?

Have you considered someone with all the latest raw and just sitting there wondering why no one is translating it, and decided to post their version? If that's the case it would also explain why he doesn't know these hidden etiquette cause he just did it on a whim and never done it before. Humans are way more complex than just 2 reasons.

Dread is a good word to use here. People here are so scared that they start to hallucinate and make up things. For example, Amplify said "BB already came out and said it" as if BB has addressed this "sniping" issue, but Amplify is still unable to produce proof of it. Maybe his dread made him imagine things, or maybe he thinks lying is the way to convince everyone.

You want absolute proof that your meddling has done irreversible damage before you will stop. You're not happy with anything less, thus it can only be deliberate maliciousness on your part, there's no excuse that can be made for you.
