Holy fuck, even from ch.1, the thirst level has gone over 9000 it'd even suck Baikal Lake dry.

...and boyo? Slide-lock your room, put a chair to block the door, and wait for a while until your mom out of her Alabama™-phase.
Just because this is a role-reversed world doesn't mean there are locks in this Japan.

...so you meant even in the normal Japan, there are usually no basic privacy security like private room locks?
Or is there any other disturbing meaning that I horribly failed to understand from that sentence?

I've lived with a host family in Tokyo in the past. Surprisingly indoor rooms don't aren't really locked or have locking mechanisms at all, there's a lock for the outside door of course, but otherwise you can get through rooms without that much issue. The bathroom had one but often enough wasn't really used, had an embarrassing moment when I just barged in and see someone at the toilet seat (host family dad). Learned to always knock here in Japan after that experience.

My current apartment doesn't have locks for the bedroom either, I have a bedroom and living room setup. Though since I live alone, I don't see a need for it either.

So that's why there are cliches like that in many anime/manga.

From what I've heard from co-workers, a part of it is really complacency. It's really rare for non-family members to visit your house here unless you're really close, usually if you wanna hang out you go meet up to either a karaoke in the city, a park or some other similar place. If there's only family members in your house, there's not much of a need to lock up indoors.

But yeah, I've heard funny experiences usually on bathroom moments with family members from co-workers due to that, especially if you really wanna take a dump and couldn't bother knocking the door first. As they say, clichés tend to have some resemblance from reality, just often exaggerated for entertainment purposes.

Though it's definitely an embarrassing experience especially since it wasn't exactly a family member. The dad shrugged it off with a laugh, though I was beet red of embarrassment at that time.

Mom, I know this apartment will be a love nest... but make sure it always smells normal at the very least, okay?
