I agree with you re: GDS and I support any decent group sniping them, but cheering for Comicdom isn't the way. If you're going to set the bar low and say "he at least releases something" you might as well whip out your phone and Google translate things yourself; why bother waiting for and relying on a crappy excuse of a scanlator - or any scanlator for that matter - to get things moving when you can do it yourself for free and in almost no time at all?

And that's not taking into consideration the others who aren't aware of who Comicdom are, what they do, and just read their stuff thinking it's a proper translation (they exist, just look at some of the comments here). They most likely won't read a proper release when it does come out - heck, they probably will even complain that they're getting reuploads instead of new ones - and that's on them, but the point here is to raise awareness.
Except as low quality as Comicdom can be. They often do at least proof read. It not great translation but it is better than raw machine most often. Also your discounting the most important thing. They are actually taking the time to put the text into the pages. Have you ever used for phone for reading? It will have the text sideways, you have to focus one bubble at a time, aiming the phone, zooming in and out. It is hell to read and destroys the flow as it takes around a minute per page, if it even detects the text. Having the text actually in the page is a huge step up.

And if the readers can't tell its a bad translation, how bad actually is it?
Comicdom deserves flack for the begging and the scamming, but they also deserve a bit of credit for the work they do actually put in, even if its MTL.
Their translation isn't the best. But it is quite a bit better than raw MTL as they do generally edit it, and do typeset. It may not be to your standards. But if its enough for readers to enjoy the series its a good thing. And its leagues better than nothing.

You have a point. After all scanlation is inherently built on trust: it's thousands - if not millions - of readers around the world trusting that some rando on the internet (who is most probably self-taught, too) is accurately telling them what the Japanese characters in their manga mean.

That said... Why would I trust a known scammer? Heck, why should anyone?

... Which then brings us back here. Everything you are saying here is correct, but the point still stands: it's from a known scammer. You're saying you'd rather trust them than do it yourself just because they typeset and (it looks like) they proofread, and that's so much better than putting in the effort yourself (which you could've done in minutes without having to wait for over a year for a new release).

Well, you do you. At the end of the day this is about informing people, and it's up to them what they do with this information.

Now you see you added a variable here. The doing it yourself part. There is a reason MTL translations exists and get read. Typesetting makes a big difference, it puts the text on the page, vs requiring you to read off your phone, or off on the side. Manga flows, your eyes going from one spot to the next. A lack of typesetting ruins that entirely.
Now yes I could do better, I could take time to translate and typset.. But translating often ruins enjoying a series, as it ruins the flow even worse and you see things with the wrong pacing, and can't immerse yourself the same way.
So there is a problem with the logic of you can do it better yourself, yes I could, but its not a solution, it also isn't being done by others. Its a very faulty argument.

Now as for trust, Hell no I don't trust him. Though I have seen him actually deliver a quite a few times, but he has scammed those he works with, so I wouldn't ever trust him. But that means I won't send money to him, not that I won't say thanks and read what he provided. Him putting out chapters for everyone is a nice thing even if he begs at the end, it doesn't invalidate he is doing some work for free with the hope of getting paid. Acting like he did a bad thing is just entitled and ungrateful, even the beg doesn't do any harm, so many ask for support, why shouldn't he be allowed to?

My point is that Comicdom has been pumping and dumping chapters here and there hoping to make a quick buck from anyone unaware of who he is, so why should anyone trust that his output is accurate?

And don't make this about other groups asking for support because those groups have been significantly more consistent with both their quality and release frequency; Comicdom, on the other hand, is a fly-by-night with spotty quality and an inconsistent release catalog (which is to say nothing about their actual release frequency). If you can't tell the difference then I don't know what to say to you.

... Which again brings us back here. (sigh) My point remains the same: Comicdom runs a fly-by-night scanlation scheme that hopes to make a quick buck from ignorant readers. It's predatory. Doing it yourself takes too much effort, but you don't need to because here's a known fly-by-night to the rescue, right?

Hate GDS all you want, but at least they're not Comicdom.

I've said everything I have to say and I don't like repeating myself, so this will be my last reply to you.

Ah I now see where your coming from, you don't like that he is a once in a blue moon and doesn't really stick to series.
The thing is, that's actually what I think is good about him. He every once in a while goes around and posts on a ton of series, this revives many dead series, reigniting interest and is often followed by new translators picking them up. Its not his intention, but it is his effect. It also pressures slow translators who are milking the series by holding back chapters in order to take longer and get more monthly subs.
But yeah I never expect him to stay with a series, though he does sometimes.
