I don't understand why this is so highly rated, it's garbage. Imagine MHA or some other shounen jump manga, which themselves are already trash, but with 100x less cool action scenes.
It's a mid manwhua.
The "go back in time" plot is kinda useless.
Magic are nonsensical. They try to explain it and make lot of rules but the rules doesn't held together... There is more exceptions than rules... And thing shown before are forgotten later... The most infuriating thing being the
time magic which shouldn't works at all like that (between MC felling the time stop and the rewind time which is pure nonsense... If you rewind time then nothing happen, and you have the knowledge, here it's a mess with some things which rewind and other not...)
Most of the world building is useless (currently chapter 193 and the "main plot" isn't even in sight)
Not a bad read though, but clearly overhyped.
This manhwa portrays social issues in a ridiculously out of touch absurdishly evil way. At the very beginning we learn there's nobles and commoners, and the perceived superiority of nobles comes often into discussion. The portrayal is completely clownish. Nobles either have absurd hatred for commoners as if they were the black death, or they do not even care about their status. I'm not expecting the manhwa to portray the idea of Noblesse Oblige, but this manhwa fails to even consider that nobles rely on commoners for their wealth and status. Nobles are not just unbothered by commoners dying, no they want a full on genocide of them. What? Furthermore we never see a commoner that is the subject of one of the nobles. Nope, it's just nobles chilling together and commoners chilling together.
This is how this series boils down all social issues.
In the first shadow world,
there's a feudal estate in winter with food scarcity. There's a lot of homeless people who depend on welfare don't work, and have a high crime rate (not even making it up, they're straight up described as leeches), now again, the non-homeless are portrayed as comically evil and racist against the homeless. Again what? Racism against homeless people? Like sure, being disgusted by the homeless right now, ok. But the knights who disagree with the MC discriminate against him because he grew up homeless. What even.
As the situation with the local homeless stabilises there's foreign homeless people coming to the estate because the lord is just so popular. Now this show doesn't acknowledge any differences in the people or anything, they're not really treated as foreign immigrants, but just another group of homeless, which is fine in this case. Dealing with another social issue, when the series is already this inept is probably a good idea.
Now we get the knights opposing letting those in, because not enough food and everyone would starve if they had to feed all the new homeless (oh and they're filthy dirty homeless people and they hate them so so much), and on the other hand, the MC, who thinks not letting them in is cruel. So they're let in. The MC now having more problems in solving the homeless issue. Throughout all this putting the homeless to work hasn't come up once. Homeless also aren't allowed to trade on the market, even though this could stop their homelessness. The MC makes no attempt to legalise this.
Now how could this get worse? Right, the solution. The solution is to sit around and worry how letting in more homeless is going to cause everyone to starve to death including the original homeless of the estate, but there's nothing we can do, until love interest shows up, and oh my god she was somewhere else and made this big trading company and can subsidise/give out so much welfare everyone can have food, wooooo. (they still don't work and crime rate also doesn't get addressed)
Arc goes on a bit with MC claiming to address the core issue which is essentially end dictatorship, tyranny and religious fanaticism where the homeless came from. I won't criticise this point as this was written in like 2018, and you know, we got hindsight with Afghanistan having happened.1
The absoluteness this series tries to portray is just so ridiculous. The interdependent relationship between nobles and commoners is completely abandoned. Nobles are still (with exception of main cast) better at magic, though unclear if they're born this way or it's through education, so the real world idea of commoners depending on nobles for protection and vice versa for labour and taxes could be utilised, following a discussion how nobles aren't better than commoners for protecting them (which they don't even do lmao), and how everyone has their role in society. OR maybe alternatively nobles aren't really better at magic (or even if they are it doesnt matter as) in face of crisis humanity should abandon such old forms of hierarchy to utilise the entire potential of every human by providing them with the same opportunities.
In the shadow world the moral dilemma is thrown away. Just do good and magically a solution will appear. Meanwhile, the very realistic, though harsh viewpoint of not doing the picture perfect idealistic thing as its literally impossible for it to succeed without Deus Ex Machina gets discredited by the portrayal of such characters as comical senseless racists.
This series fails to portray any social issues on its most basic level. On every issue the bad guys are just racist because the author is incapable of thinking of any other argument why say nobility is bad.

If one could freely manipulate time, wouldn’t they logically be able to cherry pick what gets affected by what alteration they make to time?
Like making a ball go backwards in a thrown trajectory, but having a key that’s inside the ball remain unaffected?

It's not the case here.
Basically, the enemy goes "back in time" and can make new choices and move freely but somehow everything else doesn't move freely and just follow the initial script, until they attain the initial timeline where all new enemy's action suddenly take effects and rewrite the old enemy's action (sometime)
It's not causality nor free time control.
But for your exemple :
Yeah it could happen like you say but with some strange behaviour : the key inside the ball would hit the ball, so which would brake ? Surely both. But if you rewind the ball, then the ball should break and reconstruct itself to it's prior state too.
And I know that most people would say "You're thinking too hard, it's just magic". I agree, there is no need to think so hard UNLESS the manga use magic analysis as a KEY point to beat the opponents.
I wouldn't mind if the author would just say "MC use his 'analyze power' and tada, MC win". Here author give us nonsensical explanation and expect us to say "Yeah, it makes sense" when it doesn't.

A little elaboration on the hypothetical I gave:
There would be a very good likelihood that the key would simply be dragged along with the ball, while time would flow normally for the key.
Anyway, I see your point, and I generally agree with them.
It was really good manhwa maybe a little overwhelming I like the art it was cool and unique mc was not ridiculously
over power and it has a little politic side that make it more enjoyable to read
I can't say it was the perfect adaption but surely it was really good manhwa
