Ooooohhhh.
So this is a case of "The Contracted Spirit Cannot Disobey Their Master".
Also, friendly reminder to people saying this shit makes no sense: Lunaria just broke down the whole damn thing in just a few pages of internal monologue. That being that since the formerly fictional setting is now as close to real life as possible, the other characters cannot be two-dimensional cardboard cutouts. They need to have things like motive for doing what they do. There needs to be reasons for the choices they make, even if they're fucking shitty reasons that make them garbage-level human beings.
With all of that said...
It's obvious that there's still some higher power pulling the strings - something that created the system in which Lunaria is forced to make choices between two mutually exclusive choices at key moments in the "Story".
That's gonna be the big make-or-break for this story - if the author/mangaka reveals what this power is and why it's doing it.
Not revealing is gonna be a copout. It's the easy way of doing it since it pretty much translates to "Alien Space Bats Did It For Reasons", and not a trope that I feel writers should resort to.
Revealing and having it turn out that the higher power is doing it all for their own amusement... Slightly better, but still pretty cheap as far as writing goes.
Revealing and having it be that the higher power needed someone to fix things probably won't fly unless they come up with a justification for railroading Lunaria through all those decision points.
Last item on the agenda here: the most recent decision being put before Lunaria.
Funny thing about that.
It's not telling us which choice has a winning condition.
The choices being offered are...
- Keep fighting and die
and...
- Summon the Demon Lord and destroy the Capitol
Also, something else to take note of is that the second choice of summoning the Demon Lord only says that the Capitol will be destroyed. It doesn't say anything about the rest of the world being involved in that destruction. Which tells me that this choice is gonna be like when the Autobots and Decepticons duke it out in the middle of a city and pretty much trash everything.
So yeah. No idea which one is gonna be the choice that "wins" here. Though if we go by the last volume cover, I think we know what's gonna happen next.
Buckle-up, folks. Shit's about to get messy. And I am fucking here for it.
