Why should we believe that the girl was actually cooler (as opposed to just being a stereotypical ikemen type of cooler) than him at any point of the time, again?

It seems to have become a standard in some circles to create a reverse-trap by simply designing a man from the ground up and then just saying that it's a woman, regardless of what gender specific traits are on display. For example the FEMC's shoulders being of equal broadness to the guy's, which in some circumstances is forgivable and not too out of the ordinary, but in some shots her's appear to be broader....which shouldn't be the case unless she's also sporting enough testosterone to grow a beard.

The only time the feminine traits shine through is when Male and Female MC have their close up shots and even then it's usually just the eyes and lips... The joke used to be that a tomboy was just a boyfriend with tits but it seems to have been taken quite far this time, huh?

I would assume the title is not lying and she is indeed a girl.

The author has done yaoi, yuri and hetero stories, they are pretty varied in their writing styles.

Yaoi seems to be their favorite genre though.

I may be off here, but they are into each other for sure.
Which at one point would raise the gender issue.
Now, I think as they are in high school, they have P.E. classes, for which they have to change. I assume if she is a he, it is not possible to change with the girls and vica versa.
So a bait and switch would not be possible for the characters at this point. It would be possible to still do that to the readers though, but I don't really see the appeal of doing that.
