I would guess that it's due to the location, as well as his history in fighting the abyss walkers. His territory is right next to where they came from, and I'd imagine that most of those adventurers were granted knighthood after they fought them off.

They didn't look like 40+ years old men, unlike the margrave himself and some others. The monster war ended 20 years ago.
