@Qwertzer @Karitan How is that a rip off or sketchy??? That is the official translation and the money goes directly to the artist. This system is normal in Korea because thats literally the paycheck they live off of. Each chapter is like what?? around .30cents and the artist gets a fraction of that. Imagine working over 50 hours a week and you get paid less then minimum wage. Not everyone can pay it yes i know and we dont get things in english till very late which is why we have this site but you shouldnt bad mouth the official site that actually supports the artists working death hours to get you the chapter to read.

@LemonTealy I'm not criticizing paying people for their time. Being compensated for your time and labour is a human right. Obfuscating that by requiring the purchase of an arbitrary currency rather than allowing the use of legal tender directly, though, is kinda sketch, imo. And for that matter, I don't think comrade @Qwertzer was criticizing a system of monetary compensation, either, as he explicitly mentioned this system of purchasing offhand site credit to then spend on works.

@karitan Thats the problem with the industry in general though. Like I said before this is a common system in korea mostly for smaller name companies hosting webtoons which solely relies on these. Naver is the few companies as of others who can pay a decent rate because they have income from things other then webtoon which is why there isnt a paywall. Due to those companies being aware of illegal manga sites and fan translation there has been an influx of webtoons popping up on tappytoon cause its the most known at the moment for korean webtoon translations. This was a big issue in the korean webtoon community. There has been a lot of korean artist who moved their comic from Lezhin to Tappytoon because they actually get payment for the global translation in comparison to Lezhin that gave the artist nothing before. Tapas also uses a coin system to buy their chapters cause it runs into the same problem . Sorry if this is offensive but the way Qwert mentioned it in their comment just feels like they dont want to pay.

@LemonTealy Did you just create an account to denounce me?@Karitan I won't comment the pricing structure, but the usage of an token currency is a sketchy concept. Why do casinos use chips and why do online games use tokens? Because chips add a little mental separation between the "user" and his valuable money. Logically, you know what those tokens represent. But since it’s not actual cash, you feel slightly less inhibition towards spending your tokens. Basically, it’s a matter of psychology. These systems force the user to overspend. You want to read a manga that costs 40 tokens? Too bad the smallest batch size available is 50 tokens for only $4.99. Also the site doesn't reveal it's pricing structure until you registered. Another concept I absolutely loathe.

On a sidenote, why are these professional translations, done by native korean speakers several times slower than the inofficial translations done by some basement dweller (no offense)? One example: The official translation of a "A Returner's Magic Should Be Special" is at chapter 23, raws are at chapter 110 and the scantlation team is at chapter 109. If you wanna charge me atleast do a proper job.

@qwertzer Well mangadex required me to have an acc to comment and i never made an acc till now. But I do understand the system isnt the best but this is how small companies are able to pay the artists. Its set like this for the user to overspend so they can have a pool of money on hand to use for episode base payment per episode, other promotional uses and hiring new artists for new stories. By all means the base payment is not enough you can live off of but thats where the percentage of that coins are directed to when you buy a chapter. Companies who only has webtoon as their primary income use this tactic to keep up with the monthly payment.

How do you think they pay for professional translators? Theyre paid an hourly rate per person while fan translations do it on their own time for free. Thats why the translation usually come a lot later within the series when it becomes more profitable for them to translate and are able to. Recently due to fans translation artists really pushed for professional translation despite being new. There is a lot of legal process in order to get things translated.

@Edvn the mahnwa is rated R15 but apparently the novel source itself isn't.... So no, I don't think there'd be any spicy erotic scenes. Definitely not like Lucia.

Firstly, thank you two for talking things out! I did not know about any official website I could use, how slow they are to translate to english or the pay structure behind it.
Secondly, is there a place I can just donate directly to the authors? If Tappytoons is so slow I don't wanna move over to them but I still want to support the people who's works I enjoy, preferably with them getting the most amount of money out of it.

Lmfaoooo I have NEVER seen an adaptation get neutered like this like
that pope who "loses his job" because he says a ten minute wedding is impossible? Yeah the novel showed him, ah, "passing the torch" in a more violent and decapitating kinda way lol, they are not even remotely fucking around with his tyrant label. They keep finding ways to make him not directly responsible for death or frame it in a funny way, where the novel just has him carry his bride to the alter and slice up a man in front of her.
This webtoon is just so cute! It's so precious and goofy and 80s shoujo-inspired! And I just wish I could witness the innocent soul who sees all this cotton candy fluff and thinks "😮 there's a novel of this? And it's translated?? Omg 😍 I can't wait I love this series"

Ok I understood watering down the violence but it feels like their initial sexy chemistry has also been cut out. Art is pretty good but so far this adaptation has been not great. I am probably only harder on it as it's one of my favorite webnovels.

For some reason I like this manga but don't... quite feel attached enough to it to follow it? The manga feels like a tease more than anything, and though it's funny enough (wheeze/schadenfreude!) the scanlation team name seems oddly fitting. XD

Anyway. It's probably just that I usually don't read these types of "villainess" stories. This was a good read!

P.S. I did read up to chapter 5, but I didn't really realize it was chapter 5 till I was redirected to the home page. It's fairly refreshing to see a male romantic interest just as actively into the romance in this sort of way! But not fangirl material, I think...

Ahh. This opinion is probably the minority. XD Feel free to disregard me.
