Haha I was raising my eyebrow at the salad and meat. I think it makes sense for them to eat bread and vegetables if they’re supposed to be impoverished to the point of being unable to afford servants. “Shabby genteel” would often have to grow their own vegetables and make pots of soup go for an entire week. Eating it with a heel of brown bread was a good way to balance the diet... that being said... thinly sliced meat and a salad with tomatoes is definitely one of those eastern misconceptions of what westerners eat/could afford 😅

@PotatoZero But it is literally sniping whether you start from the beginning or not? The only time it's acceptable to snipe is when groups squat on popular series and never/rarely update them. Or if multiple groups accidentally chose the same project at the same time (well, then it's not sniping).

Sniping is unacceptable because it's unfair to the original teams and their efforts building up popularity and readers for the project only for someone else to jump in and take it.

Doing the same project all over from the beginning is not sniping, it's fair competition. If the result is worse than the original, it won't get any traction even if it catches up. If it's better, the original still has newer chapters advantage, perhaps it'll motivate them to do better

@PotatoZero Whatever you need to tell yourself. There is no such thing as competition when most decent scanlation teams aren't seeing a penny and are updating based on self-satisfaction. I don't know where you got the idea of competing translations but it's virtually nonexistent in the scanlating world. There is typically only one fan scanlation unless there is sniping or an accident etc

Look at this series,
https://mangadex.org/title/44516/15-minutes-til-they-actually-start-dating
See if there's anyone complaining at the newer scanlation team about sniping,
There's also this one,
https://mangadex.org/title/13800/the-new-gate/chapters/2/
Though that was a long time ago, so it's not obvious in this site

@PotatoZero I can't tell you why or why not that is but aren't those more like exceptions than the rule? Can you really say there's such a thing as competition for scanlating one project? Outside of a few chapters overlapping you'll rarely have two groups working on the same series in the same language because it's unkind to people who are making a ton of effort in their free time

The sniper is also making a ton of effort on their part, and by starting from the start it shows that they are willing to go through the same effort that the original has been doing to reach their place now, and that even with most people won't bother rereading their releases.
By that point using effort to support the claiming of a title is baseless.

@PotatoZero Yeah but the sniper's efforts literally lower the clicks and conversations around the first group's uploads. That is, the first group's efforts receive fewer returns. The sniping group knows and wants this. So whatever effort the sniper exerts, it's literally just rudeness to the first group.

Scanlation groups' projects are claimed on the basis of squatter's rights. Or first come, first served. It's a system based on respect because we appreciate their efforts.

That squatter's right, no, it's not written nor implied anywhere, that's only how you think it should be. Rules that can't be upheld is no rule at all, and ultimately the community are the one with the power to punish snipers. What the overall community thinks is what the rules actually are,
In the cases where the exception did actually occur (there's more, but forgot the titles), no one raised a fuss. So rather than exception to the rules, it's more rules to the exceptions.

I kinda like how they designed Ashley to be clumsy, it makes more sense why she’d leave a whole ass shoe behind...
Not that she needs worry about her things disappearing at midnight in this timeline

Thanks again!!

@PotatoZero Of course it's not a written rule. Scanlating is illegal anyway. But that doesn't mean there aren't rules for the community that we're all engaging in. It's unequivocally asshole-esque to snipe. The word snipe says it all.

The rules are what the community does. If no one raised a fuss when it happened it means that there is no problem with it.

What situation? This title? Where only two people are making a fuss about this 'sniping'? I call that situation nothing
