This is the first comment I'm writing on this series so this isn't just about this chapter but my feelings that have been building reading the whole series so far, but as someone who loves reading Yuri I really hate Shimamura.

I get it's her character but I feel like everything up to now is trying to get the reader to hate her with how little she actually cares about Adachi, on the other hand I love Adachi and she's one of my favorite characters from the genre with how hard she tries and her determination, legitimately a little inspiring lol.

I love Adachi enough that I want to read this whole thing through just to see her get the happy ending she deserves, even if it has to be with Shimamura.

I also hope that the worst of her character (prob when she angrily hung up on Adachi who was clearly sobbing and mid-mental breakdown and proceeded to not care or think about it again) is past and her character will become more tolerable/emotionally invested from here on.

Well, I don't want to start any fights in the comments, your point of view caught my attention so as a very stan of Shimamura I'll reply respectfully

First of all, Shimamura really DOES care a lot about her friendship with Adachi, but it is in her own way because that is how she is and she also has other friends, which Adachi does not have other close friends apart from Shimamura so w/o her Adachi would be completely alone. That is the main reason why Adachi can't stand being w/o his company for even a second.

Adachi is a character with a simpler writing (I'm not saying it as a bad thing) and since she is the one madly in love it is understandable that you would want things to go well for her, her personality makes her love towards Shimamura much more noticeable since she loves her romantically more than anyone else. Shimamura on the other hand has much more psychological background and the story does take the time to tell why she is the way she is, besides Adachi she has her friends and her whole family that she can hold on to see how not long ago we saw how much she loves her dog and that's without telling what she thought throughout this chapter: she tries to give her an answer that Adachi could accept, practically she accepted her confession but she is also worried about how her social environment would react if they start dating.

We'll see how the relationship develops from now on. It would be logical to think that Shimamura will begin to recognize how different romantic love is from the love she feels for her family thanks to Adachi. I wish so much for them

Sociopath? Lol. Read this maybe it’ll elucidate you about the characters.
To answer your LN question Shima does fall in love with Adachi, she even says so. In death, Shima chose to stay with Adachi in the afterlife over Gon and her grandparents if that tells you anything.
There's a error message when I try to click it :(

And Adachi being very needy and possessive isn't an issue? Pipe it down, they both have their issues, Shimamura has never been emotive or good at expressing herself, she might enjoy being mean to Adachi a bit too much, though, but that's part of her distorted way of showing affection.
Yeah I was gonna mention that but it was 1am when I typed that.

It's because it's juxtaposed with Adachi spitting up blood and confessing repeatedly. It's just a funny image being so blase in the face of all that.
She's used to her GF's antics by now. That's part of Adachi's charm haha. It's a testament to how comfortable Shima is with Adachi, that she doesn't react to those quirky behaviors. It's also a testament to how patient Shima is with Adachi because most other people (or any other person) would not adjust to stuff like that.

They work together exactly because Shima is so laid back. Good fit. Maybe the only fit and I think that's part of their charm. With some couples in manga, you can't understand why they are attracted to each other. It can feel like they'd be with anyone if the ball rolled differently. But with these two, it's "crystal clear" how they attract and complement each other.
And who decided the love she feels now isn't enough for a relationship?
People who are a bit too influenced by the manga they read and its unrealistic aspects. I can't imagine anyone is really out here with a rule not to date until they are madly in love with someone first? This is one of those opinions people only say when talking about fiction, not real life (you'd hope).

She gets asked out. She thinks about it. She likes Adachi. She enjoys spending time with her. "So, yeah, let's try dating." What's abnormal about that? We typically date to learn more deeply about people and then fall in love. Adachi is the one with the intense attachment. Shimamura is taking it at a more typical pace. There's also that Shima doesn't fully understand her feelings, which is also normal. She already has shown that she likes Adachi quite a bit.

What a sweet chapter! I loved how considerate Shima was towards Adachi, unlike before she didn't take her feelings lightly and took the time to think her answer through instead of being dismissive. She's giving herself the chance to see Adachi in a different light, looking past her own worries and insecurities. Now Adachi can finally stop bottling up her own feelings and be more straightforward, with is exactly what Shima needs.

I'm expecting their dynamic to change a bit from now on, with Adachi being more in control and Shima being the one who has to sort out her feelings. Can't wait to see where this goes!

a part of the thing going on with shimamura that has led her to this point is that, while she is also definitely, 100% in love with adachi, she's really bad at processing and expressing her emotions.

it's not that she is less in love with adachi than adachi is with her so much as the way she expresses and feels emotions is muted compared to normal people, let alone compared to adachi.

when adachi feels emotions, she overflows with them, they become too much for her to handle and understand and they spill out of her unbidden. when shimamura feels emotions, she retracts from them, shrinking away so that she barely feels them, even if they are, at the core of them, the same basic emotion to the same degree.

neither of them are, like, good with emotions, but they're bad with emotions in basically the opposite directions. where adachi experiences emotional dysregulation, shimamura experiences emotional numbing and a flat affect.

She definitely has feelings for adachi but is bad at processing, like we know how much she thinks of her, she is insensitive and rude about her most times but you can tell she has her on her mind and not quite in her heart but she doesn’t really have a lot in her heart in the first place, I want to see where this goes
