Shimamura doesnt see her like that at all though, truly the best way to go through with this would be by talking, to eachother as in tarumi and adachi, maybe at the same time. Thats tooooo good to happen though, so... angst?

That's pretty much what happens to people who are not empathic at all. At some point they suffer backlash and then to compensate, they go full thinking mode, so its more of a understanding by thinking than empathy by feeling. Saying this as an autistic vet.

I’m not too knowledgable about autism so I can only speak for the context the story has given me. Shimamura was apathetic at the beginning of the story not because she personally finds it challenging to interact with others but because she found it bothersome. Her relationship with Gon shows that she is capable of empathy. I would even argue that her desire to continue involving herself with Adachi shows that she is an empath. Remember when Shimamura felt upset how Adachi’s mom talked about Adachi and proceeded to lecture her? She felt frustrated for Adachi’s sake, if that isn’t empathy than I don’t know what is.

Adachi would make that awkward for Shima's friend. She'd be doing something and I think Shima would rather avoid that. Besides Tarumi having a real crush, you can't have Adachi regularly reacting negatively to Shima having friends.

but also, people please let your partner have friends in real life, while is cute from our autistic adachi, it isn't in real life, is only acceptable from adachi because she dumb in a cute way and would fold instantly and we all know it

Adachi is such a psychopath, it's great. I always love the moments where you're reminded that the reason the two of them work so well is that their incredibly toxic sides mutually complement each other.
