I don't get it? Isn't it pretty clear that they used her to destabilize the other empire and at the same time sold her out so someone other than the royals would be blamed for the assassination.
The only stupid thing to me is it seems very, very obvious the only people Aidan would gain from assassinating would be the royals of her own nation. Hopefully, there's an adequate reason why the ML/rival empire took it for granted that an unrelated person would leave their own country to assassinate a royal of another country. Otherwise, the story seems very dumb to me. Plus, the two empires are at each other's throats. Seems fairly that the ML should have suspected the other empire being behind everything no matter what
