Ah, so many joke dragons.
Meatarian dragons,
Vegetarian dragons,
Fish only dragons,
Space dragons,
Mirror dragons,
Dragons that 'farm',
Dragons that have life and death debates,
Dragons that eat souls,
Dragons that smoke,
Dragons that love drinking,
Dragons that are as flat as paper.

What was once a legendary folklore creature are now 'mostly harmless pieces of jokes'. Props goes to World Eater Alduin (killed by a wooden sword) and Radian who laments not being the main character.

Welp. As long as its cute, its fine.

@Nep It's not like if there is a thing with dignified image that stays dignified upclose. Weakness to alcohol is pretty common for dragons though.
Oh, and not to mention some things change with time, like fairies being dumb, ugly and malicious to fairies being dumb, pretty and fluffy.

@Nep @Kwendy Cute, fluffy dragons have become so prevalent, it would probably be an innovation to include classic dragons in a story. And by classic I mean living incarnations of sin and evil.

@Drifter I'm pretty sure evil incarnate coul be not even the oldest of them. That and non-european dragons tend to merge with deities at some point. Evolution was ongoing for so long I don't think posseble to pinpoint what dragon being supposed to be.

@kwendy @Drifter

I know. I am not so much complaining about dragons not being "The Dragons" anymore. It's more like an old man statement of
"Oh, look at what time and imagination have done to the once mighty images of dragons." A good example is still Radian from Radiata Stories. After 4 boss battles of somewhat proper looking badasses, they gave you Radian... a flat... kid's drawing...

I don't know about dragons and alcohol though. The first (and only) alcohol drinking dragon I read of is... was it Death March? I don't even remember. The only other is 'somewhat implied' as the dragon's human form is a alcohol loving race (dwarf)... that got killed off before any on screen drinking could happen.

That's practically a feature of the genre, isn't it? Every isekai protag goes to a world that their half-remembered primary school lessons can improve by 100s of years in one shot. Also, cuisine is almost always terrible there and even something as basic as seasoning food can be a massive revelation for these poor backwater other worlders that never noticed the salt they were preserving meats with made it taste different or some shit like that. Yeah it's dumb, but I don't see it going away any time soon. Look at how long some of the things people tend to hate on have stuck around in genres like romance, once it becomes a trope it's gonna get used to death and beyond.
