There's two ways to serve the audience in a performing art; pandering and depth. Pandering would rely more heavily on reacting to the vibe of the crowd; effectively you'd use soft focus to see minor reactions in an attempt to build up to a proper climax and have a nice flow to an act. Depth, on the otherhand, would rely on how much prep work goes into your performance. Focusing more on techniques, research, and performancewise the honesty and sincerity of being genuine. This is, however, a false dichotomy. An ideal performance has measures of both pandering and depth, doing only one or the other alienates the artistry and the audience respectively.
Tl'dr; never not practice and learn how to look aesthetic in a performance, and when you get the technique down, learn to soft read and react to build a better narrative during performance
