Wait hold on. There's a food in france that legally requires the torture of an animal... wtf man T_T

https://x.com/fasc1nate/status/1965875489265873144 there's also that song bird one

I get exactly 3 hits for "salparfait" on Google. All three are French. One is a typo, merging part of the name of a hotel with the french word "parfait", "perfect". The other two are Instagram comments I can't read in full because I don't have an account, but they don't seem to be about food at all.

i wouldn't be surprised if it was made up by the author. idk what would come up if you searched for it in katakana tho

https://hma.shiseido.com/jp/info/p20250423_17931/ found this page (salparfait, apparently author is some hair and makeup artist ironically?/coincidentally named Yuri)

https://youpouch.com/2016/11/22/396649/ 'shioparfait' beef tongue and melted cheese...maybe cream cheese in a parfait but i don't even like cream stew so idk about ice cream/yogurt and meat even tho theres been savory yogurt sauces

I guess Lily binge-eats delicious foods in order to try to ignore her urge to jump her sweet girlfriend.

vaguely remember seeing a chart that was like food = emotions and one under carbs/carving was like horniness and ppl making italian pasta jokes

Maybe the term is only widely used in Japanese social media, and "salparfait" is just a translation/localisation?

That or the author made it up, who knows?
If you search it up in kana (しょっぱふぇ), you get some results, like this website from 2016

France also claims it as their cultural heritage, which makes fully banning it across the EU a nonstarter. Most EU countries have laws against producing it, but you can still freely import it from France and the few other EU countries that produce it. Single market and all that jazz.
Torturing animals as culteral heritage is really cool of them... :aquadrink:

I know it's rude to judge an entire country by what some of its people do but pre 1999, I'd judge the hell out of france for that. Banning it was the right thing to do. Animals should be respected and cherished :meguuusad: :aquadrink:

well, at least they're self aware about it considering the pics of them "covering themselves in cloth before eating to 'hide the sin from god'", which, also feels like blasphemy if you really are a believer considering if ppl are christian or so,God would 'see everything' and even attempting to hide would make it worse (but yeah plenty of french jokes and all still)
