He already knew they were easy to deal with the moment they defeated the first guy, Scare them only makes sense if he actually wanted answers... if not why even bother? just kill them and move to the boss if he already knew... it's just lazy writing, plain and simple...
As I said, he's working with the hand he's dealt with. More info to work with, the better to outcome.

Also, he didn't know there was a Bishop until the two are talking about it while going to the meeting place. More likely the first dude squealed the meeting location but refused to give more info.

He was just pushing it with those two but seems like he ran out of luck so he decided to off them there and now so they won't be an issue later on.

Makes even less sense to let the first one alive or even make them questions if he already knew....

He didn't know they were working for the bishop until he stumbled on them admitting it out loud. And then he probably sensed the inklings of their bloodlust when they were thinking about having to kill him for that secret.

He knows they're hostile, because they're lying to him about their circumstances. He reasoned, in the previous half chapter, that they're not there for any legitimate legal reason. He "says", the primary grunts of a search and rescue, for a noble, would be High level Adventurers or a Noble's Private Guard. They don't need to hide anything, they're bound by the laws of the city. They can walk up to the City Guard and say, hey, we're looking for this girl, her family is worried about her. All on the up and up. But instead, they come through the front door, and send a combatant in the back. At Night. Combined with the situation in the slums in Chapter 3, and he's on a short leash with people threatening his kids.

By the same reason, he knows that learning that the Bishop is involved, is also something that is supposed to remain a secret. He now knows, a Bishop sneaked into the country/region through the forest. Even if this was on the down low, you're not hiding in the forest, you enter through the front gate in an unmarked carriage and you stay at an Inn. Or at the local church. Forest is strictly for things you don't want others to see.

Expected reaction, when some dude chucks an unconscious comrade's body, isn't keep both your swords up. It's one guy on guard, Yells Stay Away, while the other rushes over to check the body. If you're scared, run away, if you're scared and trained, keep your swords out for defense and back away.

And he knows they're grunts that barely know anything. Other than a Target, and probably their boss's location. Not much information to wring out of them. See again Chapter 3, he only needs 1 confession. And with the help of Valkyrie, he knows he barely even needs that.

but A: he didn't have more info, B: killed his info before he could get it and C: if you have to make assumptions to fill a plot hole is indeed a plot hole

If he can't read minds, that still doesn't make sense.
He knows they're hostile, because they're lying to him about their circumstances.
Lying is not inherently a sign of hostility, they have literally have done nothing so far but sneak behind the house.
and he's on a short leash with people threatening his kids.
making even less sense to leave the first guy, the one that was actually a threat to the kids, alive.
Expected reaction, when some dude chucks an unconscious comrade's body, isn't keep both your swords up. It's one guy on guard, Yells Stay Away, while the other rushes over to check the body.
yeah sure, check if you buddy is fine in front of a potential killer, double your size, parading with a potential corpse and a big sword, that makes sense, lol
And he knows they're grunts that barely know anything.
he doesn't know that, he wouldn't bother making questions otherwise, why people keep making a lot of assumptions just to justify lazy writing.?

I get that he wants to defend the kids but the guy just give them a single panel to answer... they could barely even react when he made the questions... one didn't even finish his thought. If actually wanted to get information and not just kill them, unless he can read minds, then that was a very dumb and rushed decision...

true but did you really think that they would talk when they were just thinking of killing him?

so are you saying that the bishop and his men would be in the right to kidnap the girl from under his nose and most likely have him and the other kids under his care killed?

Thanks for the chapter!

Typos & edit suggestions: @Electromaster
  • p7 it would be nice if they can get along -> it would be nice if they could get along
  • p8 many number of ways -> any number of ways
  • p9 So he's just basically greedy not like it hasn't been known until now -> So he's basically just greedy. Not like that hasn't been known until now.

You don't get me. He got the info who and where to go next. On the why, it's depends on him not murdering the bishop long enough to get what he needs. That's the direction the story is going. The plot hole for this will be cleared later on.

I like this guy's style. Suspicious folk not answering questions after they threaten his adopted daughter? Whatever, they're dead.
I had an issue with him not trying to interrogate them a bit more, after maybe removing a couple hands or whatnot. But then it was revealed he expected the scout to already have fully grasped their location anyway, so then it all made sense.

Lmao, a holy knight that enjoys "tasting" women? I wonder how much will the guild pay for a pair of holy knight jewels!
