It is a bit linked in a weird way. The cross dressing was because the family tradition requires a male heir to the military dukedom. With no other child, Karen was to be treated as a male. Conversely, Karen feels that the only purpose she has to her family is as the bride of the Crown Prince. So she's following the family's weird bending of the rules. Remember that she's only been a candidate for marriage for a year at best, so it wasn't like she was being raised particularly for it.

God DAYUM this was such a good chapter. Getting such brief yet very effective backstory for Karen. Hell, that one panel of kid Katen getting beaten was so heart breaking yet so good. We also see more into the prince character. Student prez flatness got exposed too

Also I'm calling it out now: Karen probably has bigger boobs than Alice
(and this is gonna be one of the few times NTRing someone (prince) will be acceptable)

It was ordered to crossdress first, which gave her trauma and the habit of always crossdressing. And then marry the prince. Its why MC was her fiancé before the prince
