I'm curious if author has his own political system or Ernie is a bad plot device character cause I'm pretty sure it's only the wives who can inherit titles from their political marriages along with Khiels and Cain still being the heirs for each family. I'll consider Ernie a bad plot device character for now unless it's revealed that there's some dumb low ranking noble whispering to Ernie's dad's ear to start a revolt.

damn though, Ernie was almost a puzzle just because he was altering a plan that wasn't his. I'm guessing after this, Cain would be forced more away from Di for turning off his brain rather than remembering that he is the rightful heir to their dukedom.
