If this was accurate to the time period it is inspired by, that fat bitch would be a freakshow member. Why is she like this anyway? Is it ever addressed? Did the author just wanted to put some fetish shit?

Edit: on a second thought, maybe the peasants are angry that half of their taxes are going to feeding the pig their lord calls girlfriend

Not sure what sources you've been reading, but many cultures thrue out history have used obesity as a status symbol. In a very real sense, fatness equated to wealth because it took wealth to maintain that size.

Much in the same way long hair was used to denote affluence, because the longer the hair, the more elaborate the styling, the more specialized servents it required to manage. Haircare products and tools were also very expensive the further back in time you go as well.

It's only been in the last century or so that obesity has been seen as unhealthy. Mostly because the general availability of resources has reached a level of excess that even the poor can become morbidly obese.

to further this point, we've inverted what is available

the stuff one would be eating at lower weights IS the more expensive option while equipment needed to maintain lower weight is the largest expense of maintaining lower weight in a low activity society like we have currently

Basically yeah, except it was a sweet roll, and when he complained to the guards they mocked him for it. (It has since become an inside joke of the guards to ask people who approach them if someone stole their sweet roll.) Thus began his hatred of the plus sized & consequently his villain arc.

NGL, sometimes it honestly just feels as if modern individuals are unwilling to lower themselves to the menial labor required to grow their own food and hunt or raise their own meat.

Yes I know it's not always possible, either due to climate or location, but in the all of the cities I've lived in there has always been the option to grow our own food to supplement our diet. Mom has always had a garden, so much food is grown that she literally spends weeks canning and drying fruits and veggies for the winter months. And she has done so while raising four kids and holding a full time job. Some of my fondest childhood memories where sitting in the garden munching on fresh carrots and cucumbers.

On the flip side of that coin I also know families who rarely cook their own meals, subsisting mostly on restaurant food and prepackaged meals. They have space for a garden, but have never had the inclination to plant more then flowers.

IDK anymore man... I know not everyone is hyper productive like my mom, but I've seen low effort cultivation of potted plants off the girlfriend's balcony produce meals worth of food for the low cost of pocket change.
