Looking at it closely, it doesn't look like the character you use for "Fuji" is the same as the one the manga uses; maybe that's why?

I'm pretty sure it's the same kanji. It might look a bit different because the font I'm using is a brushstroke style rather than a standard print font. Kind of like the difference between cursive and print.

Oh yeah, that’s true as well. It’s often used in sword names because it means something like “one stroke” or “one strike,” implying an instant-kill sword that cuts through enemies. I just can’t fit this on the afternote, what I mean is I can't find a specific reference for Fuji-Ichimonji. Maybe it’s a fictional name?

The Ichimonji in Fuji Ichimonji is a common trope/trend/variant/whatever you call it used by Japanese media to refer to either famous swords, famous swordsmen, or famous swordsmaker. It's based on actual historical swords of medieval Japan, collectively named Kiku Ichimonji.

On stories that explicitly sets themselves in Japan (real or fictional future) they usually just use the term as is. Rurouni Kenshin for example, has a lot of sword labelled Kiku Ichimonji, but theyre usually not real (styled as a "lost sword" or some sort).

Other stories usually slightly modify them to (X) Ichimonji, like this manga does. One Piece has Wado Ichimonji (Zoro's swords and others), Overwatch has Ryu Ichimonji, etc.

Actually not that big a fan of Grace just being (sorta) "misunderstand" or "misguided". I mean, given that this is mostly just cozy slice-of-life I guess that makes whatever resolution we'll ultimately get easier since she really just needs to understand she was trying too hard, but I wouldn't have minded an actual villainess reformation arc of some type.

Hmm. I was comparing the kanji in the end page where you used a similar font for them, but yeah, the brushstroke font might be why it looks so off to me. As for the reference of "Fuji", I think I might have found it! The Wisteria plant!

IIRC this is actually common in a ton of manga, usually just to avoid any potential libel suits. For instance, let’s say that I wrote a manga, and one of its villains is a narcissistic capitalist named Donovan Crump who kills thousands by developing fascism in his country and who later dies after trying autoerotic asphyxiation.

If any people in the real world try to sue me on the grounds of trying to besmirch the name of a certain real-life person, I can point to the disclaimer and just go “I came up with this character a while ago, and any similarities to real-world people are simply coincidences.” And who knows? They very well could be.

As for why it appears in this story specifically, it’s usually just to cover their bases. Obviously there are no characters similar to the prior example I made, but if someone reads the manga and goes “wait… I have a Japanese uncle who looks and acts like this dude”, it protects the author if they try to sue for royalties.

I'm not worried, in Tesuto I trust. They have done a great job with it without a bust.

I really enjoy the humor in each chapter which keeps me attentive as a reader so my focus will not suffer from wanderlust.
