I’ve seen this meta plot point used to explain why noble people think female leads are villainesses, but this is the first time I’ve seen it used on the common people AND in favour of the female lead.

Because she didn't actually do anything and everything just worked out due to happenstance. The only thing she kind of did was give vague guidelines to an author to write a book.

It's the classic Folly of an author cannot write a character smarter than them unless they put in a lot of effort. Most authors just aren't willing to put in that kind of effort and so instead they just make everyone except the main character a moron so that way the main character seems like a genius in comparison.

She will take the throne for herself, and be a Queen with all the power. The Prince will be just her husband in name, a King with no power at all... All other guys will be ruined, and thrown out by their families (except her brother who switched sides mid story).

The Saints faith is a mystery now, her character was completely changed compared to the WN. There she was a nice girl and FMC kept her around, she gave her a job and a new life to her and her lover after they eloped.

In this version tho, she might get destroyed by FMC lol

It would have been enough to piss people off if she was just naive, selfish, and ignorant.

Subtlety and nuance have no place in propaganda. A narrative built on bold lies, massive conspiracies, and one hero who can make it right is what sells best. The more unbelievable your narrative is, the more real it becomes in the hearts of your followers.

Because she didn't actually do anything and everything just worked out due to happenstance. The only thing she kind of did was give vague guidelines to an author to write a book.

She seems to have seen it coming that the saint intended to hold of on curing the people as long as possible and thus purposefully only gave vague instructions, so that the author's own dislike of the Saintess that doesn't do anything became part of the book.
She also set up an alternative to the saint's healing and focused on making that alternative available and cheap enough for it to be more affordable for the common people to buy the medicine than to wait in line to get healed for possibly multiple days, due to the shear amount of people that need healing.

Point is, while she did end up profiting from the incompetence of the people around her, she did make sure that riots would break out and was sure it would end this way.
Also, she has been introduced to use scandals and public outrage as one of her main tools for getting rid of competition and an important part of that is to make the public believe that the outrage is their own decision, not the decision of someone else.
