Low-key, I'm rooting for them. I never really liked het ships but these two makes me wanna root for them

Het romance is always so boring when it's just a repetition of heteronormative narratives of romance and is actually interesting when it's cutting against those narratives, especially when some element of it is against more general norms for relationships. So far, this hasn't really been following those heteronormative narratives and has been a relationship built around the fact that their families exist in opposition and one of them needs to break hard against his family's bigotry in order to pursue it, at risk to himself. That makes it actually interesting and not just boring nothing.

Ofc, even when cutting against those narratives, you still need to write it well, to have chemistry between the characters, to create tension and drama, for it to be more than just them being happy and in love all the time, for it to be at all interesting, but, at the very least, it's capable of rising above the standard structure of patriarchal romance and being good and interesting rather than being relegated to being a boring snoozefest.

You are indeed correct. I might be misremembering but was the series always a monthly release? I feel like it used to be biweekly or so, but has shifted it the last few months. The next chapter is February 26th, for example. Am I a lunatic or am I on to something?

I don't think you're tripping; I think some while back it was said somewhere that Alcohol and Ogre-girls was shifting to a new publication because the previous kinda went bunk, so now it's monthly rather than bi-weekly like before.

Yeah, I do remember that but I thought the release schedule was still mostly the same for a while. I don't remember it being monthly even on this site. Oh well, it doesn't bother me much anyway. I love the series regardless. Thanks for the help.

Edit: Also I realize I wasn't specific. By "next chapter" I mean chapter 50. Chapter 49 just released on time today.

man.. this has nothing to do with the manga and is just my general distate for men no matter what but i'm really sick of this guy 😭 honestly my excitement for this series fell off pretty hard when they pretty plainly stated that the main couple wouldnt get together until the very end and i'm just so sick of that

So he's gonna keep viciously murdering youkai just to keep up appearances until his dad dies? That feels... kinda gross? Like, some of them are obviously dangerous and probably deserve it, but it was made pretty clear his "family duties" don't just apply to youkai who pose an actual threat to humans. Maybe this really was the best or only path available to him, but the way this flashback ends on such a positive, optimistic-for-the-future note when not even 4 pages ago we were treated to Tsukasa soaked in the blood of his victims... well it just feels super dissonant and unnerving...

We all need an Aju in our lives, incredibly perceptive and conscious of Tsukasa's emotional state and able to provide the kind of bedrock emotional support to a guy who was virtually suicidal at the start of the chapter.
Aju is honestly one of the finest Yuri side characters I've seen in a while.

IIRC, kinda like sworn enemy that hope to kill them off one day? Or was he just want Tsukasa to obediently exterminate yokais he ordered to, other than that, he can do anything he wants?

First scenario is what I vaguely remember; and my questions are, since they know he was meeting with Aju before, what stops them from knowing what he's currently doing with Aju right now? Probably nothing. Then, wouldn't they find it suspicious for him to be so friedly with Aju?

The original goal was to ensure that the Watanabe clan keeps the oni in check, which means being willing and capable of slaying them (and any youkai deemed a threat) whenever they step out of line. It didn't amount to outright violence, but there is clear hostility between the elders of the clans.

That being said however, the younger generations would err on the side of those grudges because they literally have nothing to do with a conflict that had been ongoing before they were even born, so why do they have to be in line with whatever their elders demand of them?

Lastly, about Tsukasa and Aju being on friendly terms, the Watanabes don't really keep tabs on their heir apparent, as long as he's still slaying youkai out there, if I remember correctly.

Transitioning would save Tsukasa. I swear every chapter he says the most egg shit (hes "technically a guy" 🤨) Tsukasa's whole backstory revolves around his father forcing him become a real man and his terror of being raised as a tool of violence thats a threat to the people hes most comfortable and safe around: ogres (women). There is a lot of merit to a transfeminine reading of the character, though i doubt it would play out this way even though it would add more yuri.

A trans lesbian character really would add a lot to the thematic strength of the story too. Especially with the way the ogre women are so relatable to trans women. They are forced to hide in the margins of society and are constantly afraid of being outed and rejected for being "monsters". Their existance is heavily controlled by normal humans in order to "protect" society from their supposed base and violent natures due entirely to the circumstances of their birth. Even the ogres own bodies become a badge of shame they must hide in order to pass in society without fear of being assaulted or shunned.

The fact that our main couples havent had a proper intimate moment together since chapter 1 while the side het couple get more attention is crazy work, it does makes me wonder whether the author is planning to burry the yuri ship in favor of the het ship or not, recent chapters have been such a chore to read… they are literally still friends, no development in their relationship whatsoever.
I know I sound paranoid but I think the creator is trying to pull a yuribait to attract readers then dip when the manga reaches certain levels of popularity. The ending would probably be she off to marries some dude to continue the bloodline or some shit while her human (supposed) gf wishes her best and respect her decision 🤮🤮

At the risk of sounding transphobic: Tsukasa's line about being technically a guy is more about him being a dude nobody knows around a female celebrity being awfully close and we all know how entertainment works on those matters

This is most evident bc previous to that statement he mentions about how bad scandals are for celebrities

I highly doubt that will happen, at worst it’ll be a special relationship type deal but not “lovers”. If anything the side couple being a het couple shows the equality of the bartender orge relationship essentially equating to oh it’s a “normal” couple so the main couple is a normal couple too. And tbh the side couples getting faster development is a smart move, the end goal of this manga is two things maybe three, one find the legendary sake to become human, two the main couple getting together, and maybe three destroying the boundaries set by the families/society. Speed running your manga’s goals is not a good way to have a sustainable series.
