You're not looking at it from the very modern and Western viewpoint.

Modern West has been hyper-Sensitized to violence in a way that is alien to everyone else and alien to all the people of history.

Since his family is from pre-1900s fantasyland, they also see killing as completely natural and unpreventable, like a chicken killing the snake after her eggs.

It's more surprising that the Mother wasn't actively praising him for it, than it was surprising that a man raised in Japan was over-sensitive to his own survival.

These characters are incrediblely endearing. You just want to give them all hugs. The one thing is it seems like Aldo is setting himself up as a tragic hero with friends and family having to stop him from suffering alone. Hopefully as he develops in this world he does learn the value of his own life and to properly let himself be loved by those around him (love and be loved). Because I will say this character type can get annoying if there's no development (and more so when the story acts like self destructive behavior is good). Luckily that doesn't seem to be the case. The mom is also straight up the MVP here.

Inside the USA too. I never understand people acting like killing someone for whatever reason isn't one of the most traumatic things someone can go through. I grew up in the suburbs. I've never even gone hunting. Throw me in a fantasy world, in a child's body, and make me kill someone with super natural powers AND I WILL BE MESSED THE **** UP FOR WAY LONGER THAN A CHAPTER.

I'm sure it's traumatic to kill someone, even if they're a piece of shit. Human beings are a species rooted in cooperation and socialization, so I imagine it's the same part of our brains telling us that cannibalism is bad and (or so I've heard) human flesh tastes bad.

That's why the solution is the same wiring that gets us into this mess. Our ability to connect with other people.
