maybe I should've written a love letter too... you were just too cool for this world, Alien Headbutt. I hope Inui keeps at it, I will patiently await their next shot at a serialized manga

Series was ok, not great but decent enough to read weekly, Japanese audiences hated it though, ranked last out of everything in WSJ week after week to the point it got canned a month before the first volume released (both volumes are dropping together)

Artist is decent, hope he has better luck in his next series

Well. Odds were that it wasn't going to go down in the annals of the all time shounen genre greats even if it had been allowed a full run, but it's a pity that the Japanese audiences were so indifferent to it, according to Mopopolis. I thought the setup was solid, the art good, and there was some decent potential for freaky monster of the week hijinks. I had the sense it was missing something crucial despite the relatively novel premise, but figured the author might have found/developed it along the way.

... again, I can't help but wonder if it would have stood a better chance 10-15 years back.

Eh. Nothing for it now. Hopefully the author's luck picks up one day.

If you want a more detailed breakdown, it started ranking with chapter 9 in issue 19 of Weekly Shonen Jump

c9 WSJ #19 - 13/19
c10 WSJ #20 - 14/19
c11 WSJ #21 - 19/19
c12 WSJ #22/23 - 20/20
c13 WSJ #24 - 20/20
c14 WSJ #25 - 19/19
c15 WSJ #26 - 20/20
c16 WSJ #27 - 20/20 (END)

So you can see that after chapter 10 the series just tanked for Japanese readers and never recovered

Kinato's Magic and Under Doctor will be getting axed next if nothing else ends before them, they have been ranking just in front of Alien Headbutt for weeks straight

I really hate this ranking system since i found about it on bakuman. Feels hard to get invested in anything shueisha until it has like 120 chapters or something

that's one of fastest axe in recent years. i mean, while it wasn't particularly bad, but it wasn't really engaging either. fells like bunch of stuff thrown together hastily without clear direction. wouldn't miss it, hope author next series better. 5/10

My favourite part was when he said "It's alien heabuttin' time!" and alien headbutted all over the place

I didn't read any of this except the last chapter which I skimmed through in 30 seconds btw.

I think we all knew this was probably going to get axed because of how niche its appeal is, but this final chapter still hurt to read. I loved the ride from start to finish, though. If only the world knew amazing fiction.

At least it ended just as strong as it started. Inui-sensei had ideas; great ideas, at that! I wish he got more time to build up the mysteries, develop the characters, elaborate on Ouga's spirit of protecting his family, and of course, flesh out more epic battles. Even though that was not the case, this final chapter was still great.

I found that that random side panel of Ouga and Volgano blowing past the clouds in the sky to be so well-drawn. I also liked how Ouga strangled Volgano like how he strangled his opponents back in his heel days. Lastly, their one final headbutt of the earth was awesome.

In my opinion, this has to be the most undeserved Jump axe since at least Kaedegami. The day when Inui-sensei returns to Jump once again will be a great day for me, and I trust it will be a great day for Jump's readerbase too. He simply deserves more success.
