aw, that epilogue almost feels like it's talking to the audience... Inui Shuutarou's first serialized manga may not have lasted too long, but I hope they can continue on towards greater heights, whatever that may look like!

also fascinating to learn Mei was the original protag lol, can't help but wonder what that would've looked like

thanks for uploading these volume extras! Nice to get a final goodbye with the coolest short-lived WSJ manga in recent times

It's a bit melancholic, but I'm glad to see the manga got a little bit of extra closure.

Mei, huh.... hmph. I wonder if that would have worked better. I don't mind the traditional hot blooded young man, but that's the thing with tradition - sometimes you've seen it all before, and seen it way too often. Mei's backstory would have been pretty quirky in a good way, at least I imagine. A pet goat turned into alien fighting fodder, rescuing her family and beating the big bad while dealing with her newfound pseudo-humanity in ways both poignant and comedic...

Shit. That actually sounds halfway good.

Would an editor have looked it over and gone, nah, this ain't never gonna work without a more standard fare male protagonist the readers can better empathize with?

Well. Guess this is one of those what ifs we'll never see realized. Hopefully the author's next work can be something that speaks more true to his heart.

Cheers for these extras.

WE COULD HAVE HAD MEI AS THE MAIN CHARACTER.

WE COULD HAVE HAD AN ACTUAL GOAT GIRL DOING HEADBUTTS ON ALIENS.

WHY MUST YOU TWIST THE KNIFE FURTHER.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT! PERFECT!

/jk

Jokes aside, the story did linger a bit too long on sections. I think the main issue was, it wasn't sure what it want to be. The premise had the whole "funky shit going down on an island vibe" but it was still a battle shonen partway, which is an interesting take on the genre, but you end up getting pulled in different...vibes as the chapter progresses.

I think the manga closest to what it could have followed was that one where they found the island got overrun by giant insects and the girl was knowledgeable about bugs so they could use it to circumvent them. The "horror" stays during those scenes because things can still go extremely wrong. The fights kinda fill the same "solution", but because its a battle manga, you don't really expect him to die anyway.

Looking forward to the author's future work.

Little Mei really ate that hamburger. I wish we could have seen more of her, but unfortunately this manga was axed...

I can't help but feel like Inui-sensei put his feelings about being a serialized mangaka into this volume extra. Ouga saying "it's not like I've lost absolutely everything, you know?" makes me feel better about this axe; he is going to come back and try again for sure.

Akira Inui will become a successful mangaka one day; trust.

Based on original concept art, Little Mei the goat and Little Mei the human would have been separate creatures, fused into one by aliens. And Fem Tatsumi would have been Little Mei (the human)'s childhood friend...

It's surprising how much Alien Headbutt deviated from Akira Inui's original creative vision. I wonder if Inui-sensei liked all the changes.

We really missed on something great, hopefully the author is allowed to cook something again soon

Really with Ruri-dragon, snd SpyxFamily going strong, lil Mei would have been a smash hit, and you could have had Ouga as a mentor figure since he is her big brother and a pro wrestler after all
