It's not like calling all of them "bees" is unique to Japan anyway. Everyone where I live knows there's a difference between all of those things. But we call them "bees." I'm allergic to yellow jackets, which are wasps. Still call them bees. It's just easier to say "Look at all those bees," than it is to say "Look at all the wasps, hornets, and bees out there today."
