@no168_92 I think most romcom manga stop after confession because the joke is how the couple hide their feelings. Once they confess, the manga essence can't hold up.

So it depends on the manga.

It's less that there's "no progress" after all this time, and more that the characters put that progress on hold themselves on purpose so they could maintain their current relationship and focus on their studies/kendo. Ya ain't gotta like it since either way it's still just the same old same old romcom holding pattern, but there's a fairly valid in story explanation for the lack of dating until a later point in time and time is advancing towards then. The series started with them as freshmen, now Amano is the third captain of the kendo team we've seen so far. They're steadily closing in on her having to pass the reigns down to her own kouhai and Manabu's entrance exams. We pretty much have an awareness of where the finish line is going to be and how far we are from it.
