FYI, I had started to translate chapter 42, but then that "origin" group did their thing when I was halfway through (full redraw of this one is a challenge), so I gave up on 42. However, seeing that the quality still wasn't there for such a good series, I moved on to chapter 43, which I did in two days.

Also, I plan on continuing.

Also, if you don't like the fonts, well, tough luck.
Ok that's fair, thank you for your work!

Would you mind giving examples of what you would have translated differently in 42?

The quality didn't seem that bad , and it didn't seem to be obvious MTL. But I don't know japanese , so I'm wondering what parts didn't make sense, in a way that indicates that it was MTL, to someone who read the original version ?

Page 5, the flow of Kanon's thoughts is actually going like "Looking at these photos, I wonder if I will find something out, something that maybe they'll notice" : at that thought she's looking at the others. The previous translator jumbled it all and it doesn't make sense.

Also, page 7 and 8, Kanon talks about something that happened unexpectedly, ついちゃった and Saki is confused. And Kanon answers ...アレなんでだろ, which means "That. I wonder why?"

The "That" is key and suggests that her period came. It's a common euphemism. Which explains why Saki asks her if she's alright and tells her to rest. In the other translation, the interaction doesn't make sense.

Page 17, "You should think yourself" sounds very awkward. It's more along the line of "for this thing, you should figure it out yourself".

Not mentioning the mistranslation of a lot of SFX, spelling errors and ugly typesetting.

I'm sure there are others, but I won't into detail. Much is lost when someone "translates" without actually understanding what they translate.

As someone who discovered manhuas yuri over a decade ago when mtl was the majority, I very much disagree
MTL was not the majority over a decade ago.
Or rather it would be more accurate to say MTL a decade ago and MTL now aren’t remotely the same thing.
Scanlators pre-2020 certainly did do their share of google translate style bad translations, and generally the standards were lower then.
But that isn’t what we are talking about when we say MTL today. We are taking about the low-effort and disruptive slop that comes from someone taking the original work, feeding it into an AI LLM like ChatGPT or OpenAI, and then posting the junk that comes out at a speed faster than a good translation with effort and quality could possibly achieve.
Bad translations are better than no translation at all, but MTL translations are significantly worse than no translations.

Google translate is a MTL, using a LLM is way beyond MTL because it will also interpret (badly but still)

That is interesting to see. I could make sense of most of those interactions but not in the intended way.
Kanon being worried others might notice what she's looking for as well definitely didn't convey in the other TL, where it seems she is only worried about what she will find there. And neither did the period thing, just what making her feel like she was zoned out and Saki being worried because of it.

Thanks for the translation and for taking the time to break it down.
