@Legend13 when the birth rate is low, people get desperate. Could also be a lot of other things like how over 90% of Japan’s population is Japanese which means it’s possible that everyone there could be distantly related so the line became real blurry.

Or it could be that in the past, they followed the example of other nations and tried to keep the bloodline pure by having cousins marry but then eventually learned how bad that is but it’s been hard to pretend it never happened

correction : Ch. 29 clearly said that they are cousins. Ryou and Yuu's father is brother in blood relation. While Youko is their cousins who comes there sometimes for her own health.

I'm still missing in part wether Youko is actually fallen in love with Ryou before or not. Or maybe later we will see from the doujin version later

@ZBubble Vietnamese here, and no, cousins marriage is a big NO for us. In our language, we still call our cousin brother/sister. And by law, the minimum is 3 families apart (not sure how to say this, I was showed how to trace that on a family tree).

I believe the only western country that broadcasting cousins marriage is taboo is just U.S.A.

In Europe, cousins marriage is okay and was cool even in 20th century. Because in all Abrahamic religion (Christian, Islam, Jews) allow cousins marriage (see Wikipedia), so in Britain cousins marriage is the biggest incest in the statistic. Arabs, and Moslem country feels normal to them. Especially Israel who is Jewish country.

My take on things:
Yuu's uncle is in the hospital because he played with the occult to try and cure Youko since it's implied she had to go the hospital frequently.
So when she died in an accident, he was floored because Yuu's uncle thought he had saved her.

So now Youko (or something posing as Youko) was summoned and is watching over Yuu's uncle since he's in the hospital potentially because he took on Youko's illness, maybe.

If you're confused: Yuu's father and Ryou (Yuu's hospitalized uncle) both loved their cousin Youko. She chose Yuu's father. They both died. Haru (the over lovecraftian creature/girl who brings the sunflower) appears as the young version of Youko, presumably because of something Ryou did to bring back Youko or replace her. Yuu is a child of incest obviously.
