Context is important. I suggest re-reading that particular page. "Those hands are warm" doesn't make much sense here.
Basically:
- Shino hasn't given a birthday present to her sister
- Shino's friend suggests that she gives the present together with the souvenir/gift that Shino bought
- Having just realized that, Shino went "その手があったかあ"

Maybe I should have translated it as "I HAD that option too." rather than how I previously translated it.

Your second translation seems better a bit. But, even if we put it in context which is your idea, how do you explain senpai react? It like the senpai was mocking our MC like "Yo, I knew that ya totally forgot it because ya had been so much fun with yar sis."


I tried to come up a new translation like: "I got distracted, ok!"

But I still feel like it isn't right, somehow...

The context is the author's idea, not my idea.
Her friend's reaction is "I can see your intention written all over your face." because Shino is saying one thing (that she supposedly wanna separate souvenirs and birthday gift) while her face is saying another (take her friend's idea that never crossed her own mind). Rather, I'd like to know why "her hands are warm" makes more sense in context here.

Well, you can always check with other translators if you're still unsure.
