Hard to say without having read the sources myself but, John II is generally regarded as the greatest of the Komnenean emperors. It's hard to believe that his face turn was so abrupt without having already displayed a capacity for kindness unlike the narrative throughout this work.
This is by no means to say that it is a bad series, far from it. Just my (admittedly unenlightened) opinion that I can't see John having been so arrogant throughout his whole life up to this point without having read through the Alexiad myself.

lol, so dude just signed his another death warrant, not like he has no other enemies but something like anna? I dont think so (from reading this series though). A bit surprised the event took one chapter to execute (not counting the previous one with the varangians), maybe lack of historical sources too, understandably.
